Frequently Asked Questions
- What are Expressive Arts?
Expressive Arts uses art forms such as painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, music, dance, writing, and drama to explore, express, and create. Unlike art in the traditional sense, the benefits of the Expressive Arts come from the process of doing the activities rather than a goal of completing a pleasing product. Any of these art forms are effective for healing and coping with stress. Expressive Arts activities are also powerful tools for self-discovery, communication, stimulating creativity, and simply having fun!
- Can Expressive Arts activities be used with individuals in palliative or hospice care?
Definitely. Expressive Arts activities will help patients, families, and care-givers find personal and sensitive ways to cope more effectively, express thoughts and feelings, and say good-bye.
- Why is your business named Rainbow Connection?
In “The Muppet Movie”, Kermit the Frog sings a song called The Rainbow Connection written by Paul Williams and Kenneth L. Ascher. It's one of my favourites! Rainbows are symbols of hope, pursuing dreams, bridges to new worlds and magic! Even the colours in a rainbow reflect various emotions and aspects of life. We are all connected to one another and to all other living things on earth. The name Rainbow Connection captures the essence of my work perfectly. It is my goal to help others live their best life while living in peace with all other beings.
- What is a Certified Laughter Leader?
Certified Laughter Leaders are trained by the World Laughter Tour, Inc. to lead Laughter Clubs in their communities. Laughter Club sessions are organized around a core step-by-step program and often include other playful activities, discussions of the benefits of laughter, and the principles of Good-Hearted Living. The World Laughter Tour was founded by Steve Wilson and Karyn Buxman to support and promote the global grassroots laughter movement, with the mission of bringing events to every continent, that promote health and peace through laughter.
- What are the principles of Good-Hearted Living?
The six principles of Good-Hearted Living are: compliments, flexibility, gratitude, kindness, forgiveness and chocolate (figuratively, more than literally). Combining these practices with regular laughter is an ideal formula for health, happiness and peace.
- How does laughter improve health?
After a good bout of laughter, your heart rate and blood pressure drop and hormones are released that are both natural mood enhancers and painkillers. More oxygen is delivered to our cells and we breathe deeper and exhale more fully. The muscles of the diaphragm, the intercostal muscles and abdominal muscles are activated as we laugh. Research has proven that laughter stimulates our immune system, increasing our protection against viruses and bacteria. You become more relaxed and feel great!
